Eric Martel has made an immediate impact with his dramatic paintings that depict a favourite Sydney past-time.
Born in Whangarei New Zealand, just before WWII, Eric Martel grew up in a family of artists, surrounded by paintings and drawings of the lush New Zealand landscape, before moving to Sydney's North Shore over 40 years ago. Eric, himself, studied art in his early years through classes at the National Art School.
Eric has developed a deep joy of the Sydney waterways and marvels at the beauty and power that can be created on the harbour and wants to depict this in his artwork. He transmits the raw energy onto the canvas by building texture and colour and then adding free hand abstract splashes to create dynamic movement and excitement. |
